Escape from Alcatraz

While in San Francisco there are a few sites you really have to visit. The Golden Gate Bridge is one of them. We had originally decided to go to Muir Woods and check out the other side, but we ran out on this day.
It really is a beautiful bridge.
Levi liked watching the sail boats and para-surfers down below. He’s point to one here.
He had lots of fun looking down.
At the park on the San Francisco side they had these really pretty flowers. I don’t know what they are, but here’s a picture of them.
And here’s the whole bridge
I like this shot with the flag and the bridge in it. Very patriotic. After this we went to a really good Mexican restaurant called Mamacitas. Unfortunately while we were there Levi threw up a couple of times. Thus began a rough couple days with a sick baby.
We had tickets for Alcatraz the next day. We made sure to work hard to keep him hydrated and get him rest. We figured he’d do okay at Alcatraz, so we went. He did just fine. In general the only problems he had where when he tried to drink fluids too fast and he’d get sick.
This is the sign near the dock. I think the Indians Welcome sign is from when some students took over the island.
The fancy official park sign.
Here’s a cell unfurnished. Pretty small and bare.
Here I am in one of the cells.
Here’s a furnished cell. Not much nicer than the unfurnished.
A view of the Golden Gate Bridge from Alcatraz.
A sailboat from the island.
Here’s the three of us with the skyline behind us.
I’m showing Levi the city. He was more interested in all the seagulls down below on the parade grounds.
This is the sign coming up to the docks. We weren’t too worried about getting in trouble for escaping.
The view going back was very pretty.
The view behind us wasn’t bad either. Once again the flag looked great.

More shots coming soon.

Before our vacation, we went to a party at a coworker of Robert’s. It was beautiful weather and they had a croquet set in the yard. Of course Levi went straight to the balls and tried to collect them all.

Onward to San Francisco

I had a business trip to Ames Research Center in San Jose this last week. With a great opportunity to go to the area we figured Kendra and Levi would join me and we’d go early.

We stayed in San Francisco to be closer to all of the sights we wanted to see. On the first day we decided to go to the Jelly Belly factory, once we realized it was so close. We have both talked about going there for a long time, so it was a good opportunity.
It was Good Friday, so lots of kids were out of school and the wait was really long.
Once we got in we were supposed to wear little hats for our hair. Levi didn’t like the idea very much and kept taking it off.
Here’s a shot of us after the tour. In the background is a jelly bean mosaic of Ronald Reagan.
On the way out we saw a cool motorcycle done with a really fancy Jelly Belly paint job. It was pretty cool to see.

There was also a van and a VW Beetle with logos on it. We decided to try for a self portrait.
Our hotel in San Francisco was the Good Hotel. It uses a lot of recycled products for its facility, included repurposed wood for the bed. The hotel had been recently redone, so it was nice. On one wall of the bedroom it had this sign.
This is a shot of the room. The thing above the bed is a set of blinds that change pictures. The throw pillow is made from recycled comforters.
While in town we met up with our friend Aamir from school. We wanted to do brunch, and he had heard about some good restaurants in the Castro district. If you’ve heard about the film Milk then the Castro district has a link. This picture was taken in Harvey Milk Plaza. It was a little odd there. I’m not a big fan of PDA in general. When its two men making out I’m a little disgusted. Definitely not my cup of tea.
Here’s a shot of us after we had wandered around for a while looking for a park. With the insane hills we never did manage to get up to the park before we had to get going.

I have a TON more pictures that I’ll be posting, but I’m going to space them out. I should be able to get about 5 more posts out of them all.

One year pictures

We finally got Levi’s one year pictures taken. He was always running into something, or someone was sick or some other reason. Now that he’s basically 14 months we got them taken. Here they are.

Levi saw an apple sitting in the area and wanted to play with it. He kept saying “ball”, “ball”, “ball”.

This is a good one.

Another great shot
Here he is with his “ball”. We were trying to get him to play with his wagon.
We got him sitting on the chair and then Kendra decided to put the ONE on there and we got this shot. He wasn’t all that happy about being up there at first. He couldn’t figure out how to get down.
A little face to face shot with mommy.
Cheek to cheek with daddy.
Levi loves flipping over and hanging around.
He did pretty well in this shot, but he wanted put down.
A little artistic shot.
And another artistic one.
Mommy looks a little unsure, but he loves doing this.

We had trouble keeping him in the studio this time, but we got some good ones.
